In celebration of Women's Month, Muzika Wa Afrika is proud to present a Digital Arts and Cultural Exhibition, currently running 24/7 from August 26 to 30, 2024. This exhibition showcases the incredible talents of women in the arts, and among these remarkable individuals is Zanele Nechigweta, a multidisciplinary artist and content producer for Muzika Wa Afrika’s Venrap Top 5 Countdown Charts. Zanele’s unwavering commitment to the arts and her community has made her a beacon of inspiration within the cultural landscape.
Zanele Nechigweta’s artistic journey began in high school, where she actively participated in drama and acting competitions. Her talent was recognized early when she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award by the Outreach Foundation Hillbrow Theatre Project in 2017. The following year, she received a certificate of participation in the provincial Segarona Culture Eisteddfod, a youth and culture program that sparked her deep passion for the arts.
Zanele's artistic path expanded beyond drama into the visual arts. At Ndalama Arts Academy, she honed her skills in a wide range of disciplines, including choreography, collage, painting, sketching, oil pastels, wood and clay sculpting, and photography. Her diverse skill set and creative vision have established her as a sought-after visual collaborator.
Her commitment to nurturing young talent is evident in her role as a Drama facilitator at Mvudi Primary School, where she has been involved in the Artist in School TLZ Development Project since 2022. Through this program, she has inspired and mentored young students, fostering a new generation of artists.
In 2024, Zanele took her passion for the arts further by founding her own multidisciplinary company, Glowzie Artist World. Through this venture, she launched several free digital projects, including photography, music, practical fashion beads, and camera operation projects in Johannesburg and Limpopo. Despite operating these projects without funding, Zanele’s entrepreneurial spirit and determination have enabled her to make a significant impact in her community.
As a freelance photographer, Zanele has developed a keen eye for capturing landscapes and moments that tell compelling stories. Her work has been featured in various events and projects, with clients including Vendart International Studio, Limpopo Arts and Heritage Festival NPC, Zeus World, Rovico Mattress, Sunday Service Events, Dream Team, Puzzled Multimedia, Rupi, Batondy, Ndalama Arts Academy, and the Afrikan Entrepreneurship Conference.
Zanele Nechigweta’s contributions to the arts and culture sector go beyond her artistic achievements. She is a beacon of inspiration for women in the arts, demonstrating that creativity, passion, and hard work can lead to remarkable accomplishments. Her dedication to community development, particularly within the arts, serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that one individual can have on society.
As we continue to celebrate Women’s Month, Zanele’s story reminds us of the strength and resilience of women artists who use their talents to uplift and empower others.
